Rhode Island: what Medicaid covers

Rhode Island is the only state on this grid with a coverage date in the near future. It is one of the few that still pays for all three: its preferred drug list has a live Weight Management Agents class holding Wegovy, Zepbound, Saxenda, Foundayo, Imcivree, orlistat and phentermine/topiramate, reviewed on 19 May 2026, with clinical prior authorization required for the entire class. Then the General Assembly’s enacted budget for fiscal 2027 limited Medicaid GLP-1 coverage to people with type 2 diabetes, and eliminates the obesity and weight-management indication from 1 October 2026. The formulary had not been reissued when this was read, and the state has published no provider notice, so the date comes from an American Diabetes Association statement quoting the enacted budget rather than from Rhode Island itself.
